Police say a Harrisburg man fled to Puerto Rico after a woman was found dead in a Susquehanna Township apartment they shared
A Harrisburg man remains wanted nearly a week and a half after police said he raped and killed a woman in a Susquehanna Township apartment the two shared. Investigators said 36-year-old Rafael Ivan Duran Malave fled to Puerto Rico after allegedly killing Amanda Makor .
Neighbors said they were stunned to learn about the killing in what they described as a quiet Dauphin County community. Police said Makor, who her family said was 24 years old, was found dead after an autopsy revealed the cause of death to be asphyxiation, with evidence suggesting strangulation, chest compressions and injuries pointing to sexual assault.“You cannot do that human being. When you do something that is not good, you should immediately report yourself to the authorities,” said Abbo Adamou, a neighbor who resided at the apartment complex for the last 8 years.Court documents said Makor and Duran Malave arrived at their shared apartment around 5:30 p.m. March 28. Someone called police around 11 a.m. on March 30.Police said security camera footage showed Duran Malave driving Makor’s car before and after her death. Investigators also said he took the car to Harrisburg International Airport on March 28 and bought tickets to Puerto Rico.“That is very shocking news situation because generally, here is very safe,” said Adamou. “I never experienced that kind of situation, and people are nice.”Duran Malave is charged with felony counts of rape and criminal homicide. The officer, who wrote the affidavit, said in it, 'individuals who commit violent crimes, including homicide, often take steps to conceal their actions,' and believes Duran Malave did so in this case.Makor’s family said she had just started a career in marketing. Her uncle told WGAL that she attended Susquehanna Township High School, graduated from Penn State Harrisburg with a marketing degree and was also a vocalist.“Though her time here was brief, she lived with a fullness, a fire, and a faith that most people spent a lifetime chasing,” said her uncle, Steve Makor.Susquehanna Township police said Monday they had no new information beyond what has already been released. Police also said there was no word yet on an arrest.Full Statement from Makor's uncle“Amanda Tussie Makor, a radiant and beloved daughter, sister, and friend, departed this life on March 30, 2026, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, at the age of 24.
