Welcome to the weekend edition of What’s On. Here are the big things happening on TV from Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9. All times are Eastern. 1. Catch Glen Powell in Hit Man Netflix , Friday, 3:01 a.
m.: Glen Powell’s latest releases looks like a sexy and funny time based on the chemistry he has with Adria Arjona in the trailer alone. Directed by Richard Linklater, Hit Man centers on college professor-turned-mole Gary Johnson. When he’s hired by Maddy Masters to kill her husband, the two get romantically entangled. The cast also includes Retta, Austin Amelio, and Sanjay Rao. 2. Julio Torres delivers another win with Fantasmas HBO, Friday, 11 p.m.: Listen, it’s Julio Torres’ world, and we are happy to be living in it. After Problemista’s success, the writer-director-star is back with a new comedy called Fantasmas, in which he goes on a search through New York City for a golden oyster earring. Expect a bunch of cool cameos by the likes of Kate Berlant, Aidy Bryant, Bowen Yang, Paul Dano, Emma Stone, Alexa Demie, and Steve Buscemi. Check out The A.V. Check out the new British comedy Queenie Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Based on Candice Carty-Williams’ novel of the same name, Queenie centers on Queenie Jenkins , a 25-year-old woman in South London who struggles to figure out her life after a messy breakup. Samuel Adewunmi, Tilly Keeper, Bellah, Sally Phillips, and Jon Pointing round out the cast. Here’s a bit from The A.V. Club’s review: We’ve come a long way from the rom-com days of perfect pretty ladies falling down until someday finding a savior boyfriend. Bad things happen to Queenie, but her dignity remains intact and she is always taken seriously, even when her negative cognition gets the better of her. 4. Becoming Karl Lagerfeld hits Hulu Hulu, Friday, 12:01 a.m.: Daniel Brühl plays Karl Lagerfeld in this six-part biopic that charts the rise of the German fashion designer during the 1970s, from his time with iconic brands like Chanel and Fendi to launching his own label. 5. It’s K-drama time with Hierarchy Netflix, Friday, 3:01 a.m.: For this week’s K-drama fix, Netflix drops the teen series Hierarchy, which is set in a prestigious high school. The show depicts the complex love stories of the classmates, who are shaken up when a transfer student threatens everything.
