A former Macon County Sheriff's Deputy was involved in a hostage situation in Macon County. The deputy held his girlfriend and her baby at gunpoint before law enforcement negotiated her release. The deputy shot himself in the chest after the woman was safely away.
First responders in Macon County spent much of Tuesday evening working to resolve a hostage situation involving a former Macon County Sheriff’s Deputy. Sheriff Andre Brunson told WSFA one of his former deputies held a woman and her baby at gunpoint before law enforcement negotiated her release.
Brunson said he responded to the scene after making multiple attempts to reach the former deputy by phone. Once they made contact, the two spoke at length. During that conversation, Brunson said, the former deputy told him he wanted law enforcement officers to take his life. Brunson said he was ultimately able to convince the former deputy to let the woman go, but he shot himself in the chest once the woman was safely away.
Sheriff Brunson also shared that the ex-deputy had recently been charged with domestic violence, an investigation that caused him to lose his job. According to Brunson, the woman he was holding hostage was his girlfriend. This is a developing story, and the case is under active investigation
