A mass domestic shooting in Shreveport, Louisiana, resulted in the deaths of eight children aged 1 to 14. Police encountered the suspect, who had stolen a car and was pursued by law enforcement, ultimately being fatally shot. Two other individuals were also injured in the incident which spanned multiple residences.

A mass domestic shooting in Louisiana left eight children dead, police in Shreveport said Sunday morning.

Here is what's known so far from local and state police: Shreveport police spokesperson Chris Bordelon said in a news conference Sunday morning that eight children were killed overnight in a mass domestic shooting.

He said the children ranged in age from 1 to 14 years old.

Police were first called to a home just after 6 a.m. and found the shooting scene spanned two residences on that street, and said that a third home on another street was also part of the scene.

An additional two people were also shot, he said.

The suspect stole a car while leaving the scene of the shootings and was followed by police, according to Bordelon.Police eventually fired at the suspect, killing him, Bordelon added.

Police haven’t yet given the identity of the suspect or the children. It’s also not known if all the children were related to the suspect, but Bordelon said at least some of the children inside the homes that died were his descendants.

Police also didn’t say who the other two victims were, or how seriously they were injured.

'What we can tell you was this was a domestic disturbance here,' Bordelon said, but didn’t give additional details. 'This is a very large scene, multiple deceased children present, and so we’re going to ask for patience in getting information out.'

In a statement, state police said no officers were harmed in the shooting that involved an officer after a police pursuit into Bossier City on Sunday morning.

Bordelon said police would be releasing more information soon and into the beginning of the week.
