Lorain Councilman Arroyo is calling out the person who sent an anonymous letter to his home.
LORAIN, Ohio - Lorain is home to one of the largest Latino and Hispanic communities in Ohio, and that community is rallying around a Puerto Rican councilman who received a racist hate letter at his home.
Lorain Councilman Angel Arroyo Jr. is calling out the person who sent an anonymous letter to his home. Inside, profanity aimed at Puerto Ricans, Democrats, and the city of Lorain, a racial slur, and a threat to report him to ICE, despite Puerto Rico being a U.S. territory. “For somebody to feel that they can call ICE on a Puerto Rican. Puerto Ricans have been part of the United States for a hundred plus years.” said Arroyo. He said he found the letter in his mailbox Tuesday morning after his tire was slashed following a Monday night council meeting.“I’ve learned from it and grown from it and the people of my community understand the growth I’ve made in my life to put me back in office,” said Arroyo. “I’m not going to let my past stop me from moving forward and growing up.”He proudly wore the Puerto Rican flag on his chest and supported by family and other city leaders of Latino descent.19 News has also reached out to Lorain Police several times on the matter and is awaiting a response. Arroyo said he wants the person responsible held accountable and to learn a thing or two on the power of words.
