Adair Concepts plans to renovate the recently closed Jim’s Restaurants diner on Broadway and open a location of Adair Kitchen.
A prominent Houston restaurant group is expanding to San Antonio with plans to open a restaurant at a recently closed Jim’s Restaurants location along Broadway near the San Antonio Zoo. A company affiliated with Adair Concepts last week bought the roughly 4,000-square-foot building at 4108 Broadway for an undisclosed price from FLF Red Raider LLC after eyeing it for years, President Nick Adair said. The company plans to renovate it and open an Adair Kitchen location, a concept it has in Houston .
Beloved San Antonio Jim’s location abruptly closes after 53 years Gary Adair, Nick Adair’s father, started Adair Concepts in Houston in 1988. Before that, he waited tables and bartended at the Mason Jar restaurant while earning a marketing degree from the University of Houston, he told the Houston Chronicle last year. He went to work for restaurateur Frank Roche expanding the Gabby’s BBQ chain from one to 16 locations, where he learned the ins and outs of operating a restaurant.
Gary Adair’s empire of Houston restaurants started 35 years ago. Now his children run the show. He said he and his wife have relatives who live in San Antonio and that the couple visits the city often. Several years ago, he reached out to Fern Lee “Missy” Finck, who owned the Broadway property through FLF Red Raider, and inquired about buying the building. Finck wasn’t ready to sell at the time, but they stayed in contact. Late last year, she called and said she was interested, he said.
