LG unveils a curved Tandem OLED robot face display with smart status visuals and energy-saving black-pixel technology.

LG has unveiled a new curved OLED face display designed for humanoid robots. LG Display’s 7.2-inch P- OLED panel marks the company’s first public humanoid display prototype and is built on its third-generation Tandem OLED technology.

The mostly black interface displays key robot functions such as greetings, battery status, weather, sleep mode, and calendar updates while improving power efficiency by turning off unused pixels. In January 2026, LG Electronics unveiled the LG CLOiD humanoid at CES 2026, featuring dual seven-DOF robotic arms for precise, human-like household assistance and automation.

Humanoid OLED interfaceLG Display has introduced the new 7.2-inch P-OLED display for humanoid robots at SID Display Week 2026 in Los Angeles, marking the company’s first public showcase of a dedicated humanoid robot display. The technology combines a flexible P-OLED structure with LG Display’s third-generation Tandem OLED platform, which has been adapted specifically for robotics applications under the name “Tandem OLED.

” The display is designed to function as a robot face interface, presenting information such as greetings, battery levels, weather updates, sleep mode indicators, and calendar notifications. During demonstrations, most of the screen remained black while only a smaller central area displayed active information. Because OLED pixels emit light individually, the unused black portions remain turned off, helping reduce overall power consumption while maintaining visibility for key functions, reports Ubergizmo.

Unlike traditional glass-based displays, the P-OLED panel uses a polyimide plastic substrate that allows the screen to bend and conform to curved robot faces or other body surfaces. LG Display stated that this flexibility could support future robotic designs requiring integrated curved displays. The humanoid display also borrows durability and efficiency features from the company’s automotive OLED technology.

The panel supports brightness levels of up to 1,000 nits, operates in temperatures ranging from -30°C to 85°C, and is rated for more than 15,000 hours of use. LG Display added that the third-generation Tandem OLED architecture can reduce power consumption by 18%, lowering heat generation inside robotic systems and helping protect sensitive internal electronics, reports Ubergizmo. Physical AI debutsLG introduced LG CLOiD, an AI-powered home robot, in January at CES 2026 in Las Vegas.

Designed as a mobile smart home assistant, the humanoid-style system combines autonomous navigation, robotic manipulation, and generative AI to automate household tasks across connected appliances within the LG ThinQ ecosystem. The robot features a torso with two articulated arms mounted on a wheeled autonomous base. Each arm has seven degrees of freedom and hands with five independently actuated fingers, enabling human-like movement and fine object handling.

LG says the robot can retrieve food from refrigerators, place items into ovens, operate laundry systems, and fold clothes after drying. Its adjustable torso allows it to reach objects from knee height to upper shelves. LG CLOiD’s head functions as a mobile AI hub equipped with cameras, sensors, speakers, a display, and voice-based AI.

The system relies on LG’s Physical AI platform, which combines Vision Language Models for scene understanding and Vision Language Action that convert visual and spoken instructions into robotic actions. According to LG, the AI has been trained on tens of thousands of hours of household task data. The company also introduced LG Actuator AXIUM, a new robotics actuator platform focused on lightweight design, high torque, efficiency, and modular customization for future service robots and AI-enabled appliances.
