Renovations to Fourth and 11th Avenues seek to improve pedestrian access.
FAIRBANKS, Alaska - As part of a multi-year effort, the Alaska Dept. of transportation is making accessibility improvements to 4th and 11th Avenues.
Such is the case on 4th Avenue and 11th Avenue this year. “We’re looking at improving the sidewalks, drainage and the curb ramps and cuts so they are both wider, safer and have better access for people with disabilities and any pedestrian who uses downtown sidewalks,” said John Perreault, a public information officer for the Alaska Dept. of transportation.
While the work this year will still result in improvements to the road surface and some minor utilities improvements, the utilities work will only be a sidenote in the project. Last year, similar renovations on Fifth Avenue allowed for a major utilities revamp but such changes are not needed for the time being in the locations being renovated this season.
