of a fishing boat that released thousands of gallons of fuel into the water off the coast of Kodiak Island. The report identified Sea Earn LLC as the potential responsible party. The spill took place at 6:39 a.
m. at Izhut Bay. DEC officials estimated that 3,000-3,500 gallons of diesel were released when the vessel tank was punctured. Commercial salmon fishing in Outer Kitoi Bay and Kzhut Bay sections of the Afognak District were closed by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game until further notice on Monday. As of Friday, there are no reports of impacts on wildlife. Overflights and on-water observations of the area are being used to monitor wildlife. However, several species on the threatened and endangered species list could be in the affected area. The spill was first discovered and reported when the Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Kodiak was notified of the F/V Sea Earn grounding in Izhut Bay. The Alaska Environmental Conservation Department was notified by the National Response Center. “A good Samaritan was able to assist the vessel and ground it on a sandy beach nearby to prevent the vessel from sinking,” the report said. The ship’s temporary patch was reinforced and it was towed to Kodiak. The remaining tanks and hull appear to be undamaged, the report claims. The vessel had an estimated 16,290-gallon capacity. The vessel finished the trip under its own power and was drydocked at the City of Kodiak shipyard at 11 a.m. Friday. In response to the spill, limited sorbent boom is on the scene and protective boom has been deployed near the Kitoi Bay Hatchery as a precautionary measure. The responsible party has secured Alaska Chadux Network for the response. “The salvage contractor arrived on scene Sept.3, 2025, and began assessing the stability of the vessel, condition of fuel tanks and conducted evaluation of temporary patching of the hole,” the report says. “A tow plan was developed and submitted to the USCG and DEC.”Fishing Report: ‘It is time to set an example’ Homer anglers release 325-pound halibut‘He ripped a lot of people off’: Hunting guide sued by state for defrauding over $660K from clients
