Longtime KTUU front desk manager Mike Valdez is retiring.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Michael Valdez enlisted in the Army when he was just 17. He would have deployed to Vietnam but the Paris Peace Accord ended the United States involvement in the war.As an Anti-Tank Gunner, he guarded the West Sector of Berlin.

From protecting the Berlin Wall, to being the station’s steward for the past 20 years, Michael has worked at KTUU. For the last 17 years, he has been the in-house face of the station. Working the front desk, he is the voice you talk to when you call on the phone. The first person you see when you walk through the doors. He is also the official station tour guide. If you’ve been to the building, you’ve likely met Mike. Now, Michael has made the decision to retire. He is so much more than the station’s front desk ambassador.
