Woody is being housed with Forget-Me-Not Animal Rescue, which is based in Fairbanks.
According to a post on the rescue’s Facebook page, Woody came to the location on Monday, and has already played with the other dogs.
“Woody has endured unthinkable, gut wrenching trauma. What his eyes have seen and his heart has felt is truly horrific,” the post read.
“Despite it all, Woody has persevered. He has come such a long way and is improving everyday - gaining weight back and learning to trust. We are so proud of him and feel honored to be able to guide him through this next chapter. His story is just beginning and we are going to make sure it is a good one from here on out.
”Medically, the dog has received an examination with the rescue’s veterinary team, including bloodwork. He shows signs of hair loss on his nose, which the rescue theorized was due to rubbing, although they say they have not seen him exhibiting this behavior. Going forward, Woody is expected to receive “close veterinary supervision with weekly check-in progress exams and consulting with behavior professionals to ensure we are doing everything we can to provide Woody with all that he needs to thrive.
