A shooting incident occurred in Carrollton, Texas, on Tuesday, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to three others at K Towne Plaza, a shopping mall located in the city's Koreatown district.
According to Carrollton Police Chief Roberto Arredondo, the attack was not random, and the victims were acquainted with the shooter. The suspect was apprehended following a brief foot chase. Arredondo stated that the encounter appeared to be related to a business dispute, though the exact nature of the meeting remains unclear.
Footage circulating online depicted law enforcement officers with weapons drawn as they moved through the plaza, which houses a variety of Korean-owned businesses, including the popular H-Mart supermarket and numerous restaurants offering traditional Korean cuisine such as fried chicken and shaved ice desserts. The FBI and other federal agencies assisted local authorities at the scene.
Carrollton, situated approximately 20 miles north of Dallas, has a population of over 130,000, with more than 4,000 residents of Korean descent, according to the U.S. Census American Community Survey. Over the past two decades, the area has developed into a vibrant Koreatown, attracting Korean investors and fostering a strong cultural presence. The city is also home to several Korean churches, including Baptist and Presbyterian congregations.
