The Brushkana musher racked up another race victory Sunday, taking a fourth consecutive win in the Kobuk 440 sled dog race. Holmes arrived in Kotzebue at 6:11 a.m. Sunday with eight dogs in harness, winning the race in a total race time of 2 days, 17 hours, and 41 minutes.
The race challenges mushers and dog teams to race the course from Kotzebue to the northern interior community of Kobuk and back. Finishing second in the Kobuk on Sunday was Kevin Hansen, who crossed the finish line just 22 minutes after Holmes at 6:33 a.m. with 10 dogs in harness.
