KINSEY, Ala. - A man charged with violating a protection order led Kinsey police on a short high-speed chase early Friday after officers received a tip that he was at a home where his wife and her two children were seriously injured in a recent fire, authorities said.
Phillip Gore, 44, faces charges of violating a protection order, attempting to elude law enforcement, obstructing government operations and resisting arrest, Kinsey Police Chief Jim Mock said. Mock said officers received information that Gore was at the burned home despite a judge’s order requiring him to stay away. The police chief said he spotted a vehicle believed to be Gore’s after receiving the tip and pursued it for a short distance.
Court records show Gore’s wife, Kelley Gore, filed a Protection from Abuse request April 17 — three days before the fire that seriously injured her and her 11- and 10-year-old children. Investigators have not publicly identified Phillip Gore as a suspect in the fire, and the case remains under investigation. In a separate court action, Kelley Gore’s former husband, Christopher Betsill, is asking a judge to block life insurance payments to Phillip Gore in the event of her death.
