The American fighter also faced controversies outside the cage, threatening to shoot Chimaev and branding him a terrorist due to his ties to Chechen warlord Ramzan Kadyrov .
Despite the prefight hostilities, the fight remained professional inside the cage. Joshua Van successfully defended his 125-pound championship against Tatsuro Taira with a stoppage victory in round five. The event was held at the Prudential Center, marking the first time UFC had a title fight between two Asian fighters.
