Passenger Safety Week runs from Jan. 19-26.

It’s a call for accountability during National Passenger Safety Week, which they say is especially important and needed year-round.They believe people sitting in the passenger seat and even backseat riders play a big part in this nationwide life-saving initiative.

“As a passenger, they can do their part by simply limiting the distractions in the vehicle such as touching the driver, engaging in loud conversations or anything that pulls the driver’s attention from the roadway,” Sgt. Reginal King said.Refuse to ride with a driver that’s been drinking.Intervene to prevent unsafe driving, prioritizing safety for everyone on the road. Troopers also want passengers to limit the distraction in a car, making it less likely for drivers to make mistakes that could prove fatal.
