Geauga County Sheriff's Office K-9 Argo died after a valiant battle with cancer. Despite his diagnosis, he faithfully served the community until the very end.
GEAUGA COUNTY, Ohio - The Geauga County Sheriff’s Office is saddened to announce the passing of their beloved K-9 Argo. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Monday after a valiant battle with cancer, just shy of his 11th birthday.
Argo was born in Slovakia on March 28, 2015. He was paired with his partner in fighting crime, Dep. Wendl, on July 6, 2016 for the village of Oakwood. The duo then joined the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office in Jan. 2024, and patrolled on day and night shifts. “K-9 Argo and Deputy Wendl were well known in Oakwood Village and Geauga County. They were involved with numerous community events and demonstrations. K-9 Argo had a great personality and brought his playful behavior into the office daily. He was always greeted with treats from our dispatchers and records personnel. Argo was also credited with a large amount of narcotics seizures and could locate any suspects due to his great tracking ability. Argo will be missed by all that knew him. On behalf of Sheriff Hildenbrand, all of our employees and deputies, and Argo’s training group, we want to extend our condolences to Deputy Wendl and his family. We thank him for his dedication to being Argo’s handler and to the K9 unit. Argo will be missed.” The Geauga County K-9 Division is funded by generous donations from the community, without which, the program would not be possible.
