“So many tourists and seasonal workers, and it just so overwhelmed that now when you go downtown, you’re just trying to get yourself to whatever you need to do and get out, so the civility has totally diminished in that downtown core area,” Hart said.— point to the economic impact the ballot measure would have on the community.
He also said the measure, if passed, could potentially impact more of the state than just Southeast Alaska. In the letters, attorneys for Royal Caribbean Cruises called the measure “unlawful for several reasons.” The CFO and CEO of Allen Marine Tours said the measure violated the Supremacy Clause of the U.S. Constitution relating to federal maritime law. Attorneys for A.J. Juneau Dock said the initiative “violates the fundamental right to travel under the Alaska Constitution.”
