A retired Monroe County Court judge is weighing in on the state’s bail reform law and how judges make decisions.

Judge Marks weighed in on criminal justice reform, a judge’s discretion, and public criticism over the release of repeat offenders."My first thought is, is this 1976 or 2024? Because we have heard this before," Judge Marks said. "Lawmakers, police, public love to point fingers at judges, and they have to be above the fray and the political pressures,” she continued.
Judge Marks said a centralized arraignment process could be beneficial because more information would be available to judges when they make a bail determination. Centralized arraignments occur off-hours and ensure defendants have access to counsel.
