North Ridgeville police partnered with the Ohio State Highway Patrol on Saturday to target speeding and reckless drivers on Saturday. An Elyria man was arrested and accused of speeding on his motorcycle and leading officers on a pursuit.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – An Elyria man has been accused of leading officers on a 100 mph chase during an attempt by police to stop speeding drivers in North Ridgeville.
During a detail to limit reckless driving Saturday, law enforcement officials focused on Ohio 10 in North Ridgeville. The Ohio State Highway Patrol used its plane to ticket 30 people in a two-hour period. Officers in the plane noticed Firas Almukdad, 30, of Elyria driving a motorcycle 84 mph in 65 mph zone near Ohio 83, according to the patrol. When a North Ridgeville officer tried to pull him over, Almukdad took off, hitting speeds of up to 100 mph, authorities said.
The officer stopped the pursuit, but the plane followed Almukdad to a home in Elyria, police said. Authorities arrested him and charged him with speeding, reckless operation and felony failure to comply.Authorities issued 32 citations, including 21 for speeding, one for reckless operation and one for a driver whose license was suspended.If you purchase a product or register for an account through a link on our site, we may receive compensation.
