Revered Austin singer-songwriter describes his new album “Echo Dancing” as “Dr. Dre working with Buffalo Springfield.”

Deconstructing Alejandro. That’s not exactly what singer-songwriter Alejandro Escovedo intended to do when he set off for Italy in early 2023 to meet with record producer and composer Antonio Gramentieri with a handful of unfinished songs for a new album. They’d collaborated before on Escovedo’s 2018 album “ The Crossing .” But instead of finishing those new fragments, they turned to Escovedo’s vast catalog for inspiration for a transformational new project.

Stevie Nicks casts a spell on S.A. fans “ ‘Sensitive Boys’ really kind of sums up everything that I have experienced in music. It’s kind of melancholy but it’s also very real… it all really centers around this love of rock and roll.” The deathly quiet “Outside Your Door” taps into Escovedo’s inner Leonard Cohen. It’s gorgeous, heartbreaking and can bring him to tears. “Some of them, I hear them like brand-new songs when I sing them now,” he said.
