A 19-year-old nursing student was found dead in her home Tuesday evening and authorities say they are continuing to investigate.
Gray News) - A 19-year-old nursing student was found dead in her home Tuesday evening and authorities say they are continuing to investigate her death. Kiriyanah Harris was attending Drake State Community and Technical College. Loved ones say she was a loving person who didn’t deserve what happened.
Huntsville Police Chief Kirk Giles said officers later tracked down an armed person of interest. Law enforcement tried to remove him from a car, but that led to a shooting involving officers. Giles said the man, who was not immediately identified, was taken to the hospital in critical condition without anyone further being injured.
The owner of the home where Harris was found said that the house was being rented by her mother and their four siblings. Joanie Barrineau has lived in the neighborhood for about 50 years and was home when police arrived. “Police cars were lined up and down the street. I saw an ambulance and some unmarked cars with detectives and a hearse,” she said. “Everybody was wondering what was happening.”
“You could tell that something horrible had happened. She was screaming ... crying,” Barrineau said, describing what she saw. “I really wanted to go comfort her and pray for her because we knew that she was in great distress.” It wasn’t immediately shared who the woman heard screaming was, but police say their investigation is ongoing.
