The search for three monkeys that escaped from a crash on I-59 started on Tuesday, Oct.28.

JASPER COUNTY , Miss. - The search for three monkeys that escaped from a crash on Interstate 59 started on Tuesday, Oct.28. Jessica Bond , the teen’s mother, said she heard shuffling in the bushes near her house on Saturday night, but nothing could’ve prepared her for what was waiting in her front yard the next morning: A rhesus monkey.

Bond said her family’s mornings are usually pretty quiet.“When I woke up, I heard the dogs barking,” said Bond’s 16-year-old son, Jarmarcus Turnage. “They don’t usually bark at nothing, unless there’s something outside.Turnage told his mother she had to get out of bed, that there was a monkey running around in the yard. “He said, ‘Ma, it’s the monkey,’” Bond said. “So I said, ‘Oh, snap, let me get my phone and let me get my gun.’”Turnage said he started recording the monkey, but things started to escalate. “My small dog was chasing it and when it got close to the woods, the monkey tried to hide at first, but then the dog ran up on it and it swung at the dog,” Turnage said.“He was on top of that bin right there, and he left from that bin and went and jumped on the railing of that porch,” Bond said. “And I sat in my truck, and when I got out, I said, ”OK, you know, do I sit here and wait for it to run away, run to somebody else’s yard?”Before the authorities arrived, Bond shot the monkey twice with 3-inch magnum shells.“I have a 3-year-old, and, you know, what if it come back out, hides in the woods and come back out and tries to attack her later on,” Bond said. “We love animals. So, it’s like not like I’m an animal killer, you know. I didn’t want to just kill a thing, but, it’s my baby versus the animal, a dangerous animal at that.” Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries removed the monkey from Bond’s property, leaving a trail of blood behind. “I would have thought he would have put it in the bag, you know, once he picked it up off the porch and put it in the bag,” Bond said. “So, now I have to disinfect and clean off everything through here.”Bond said she didn’t notice any odd behavior, but there were obvious markings that made her worried. “You can see like it was like a tattoo on it,” Bond said. “And, you know, these are lab rats, basically.Bond said there were no follow up searches conducted. “You would have thought that they would have came through and searched the woods in here and see if the other one was around,” she said. “The other one could have been sitting in the woods watching everything go down.““Get out here and find the rest of these monkeys,” she said. “And for all the people that’s being rude and negative, get out here and search for the animals and find them yourself.”UPDATE: Baldwin County Public School System says Daphne High School coach resignsAccused stalker used Grindr to send strangers to victim’s home for over a year, police say Teacher died after being served margarita at Mexican restaurant with ‘industrial degreaser’ in it, family saysNo. 4 Alabama suspends DB Dre Kirkpatrick Jr. indefinitely after his weekend arrest ‘This means you will die’: Alabama man accused of threatening religious leaders across Southeast faces federal charge
