Four Anchorage police officers have been identified from Wednesday’s shooting in midtown, leaving the suspect and a police dog injured.
Around 3:25 a.m. Wednesday morning, a person saw their stolen car at the Circle K at Minnesota Drive and Spenard Road, according to Anchorage Police Chief Sean Case , who provided details at a press conference last week.
The car eventually stopped at 34th Avenue and Eureka Street, and shortly afterward, officers arrived and attempted to block the car in. Both occupants of the car got out. One was taken into custody while the other ran towards Bering Street.“The suspect at one point in time turns and fires between one and three rounds in the direction of the officers,” Case said. “Four officers returned fire. During the exchange, our K9 Kiska was struck by one of the rounds.” Over the weekend, Anchorage Police identified those four officers: Jesse Amelse, Parker Boydston, Jacob Ostolaza and Cameron Saloka.in 2024. He was cleared of any criminal charges. Ostolaza was hired by APD in June 2016. He has been involved in another OIS in the fatal shooting of 34-year-old Kristopher Handy in 2024. He was cleared of any criminal charges. The suspect was hit during the exchange. Life-saving measures were performed, and they were eventually taken to a local hospital. Kiska was taken to an animal hospital and had to have one of his toes amputated as a result of his injuries. “We’re told it’s non-life-threatening and the dog will recover,” Case said in answer to a reporter’s question. “There’s a few different questions that we have to answer before we can determine whether or not the dog will be back in service.”See a spelling or grammar error?
