The FBI warns Americans to use encrypted apps as agencies investigate the Salt Typhoon hack, which officials are calling the largest in U.S. history.
Chinese -linked cyberattacks that have compromised a broad swath of the U.S. telecommunications network apparently have given officials in Beijing access to the private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans. The White House said last week at least eight U.S. telecommunications and telecom infrastructure firms have been affected and a large number of Americans’ metadata has been stolen in the sweeping cyber espionage campaign.
Feds warn water utilities about rising threat of cyberattacks Word of the attack comes on the heels of reports that the FBI and Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency were assisting telephone companies with countering other China-connected compromises of their networks. The earlier hacking was part of an attack targeting people in the Washington, D.C., area in government or political roles, including candidates for the 2024 presidential election. How big a deal is it? Sen.
