Through his five years at UTSA , defensive lineman Asyrus Simon said he’s been inspired by watching the team's leaders. Frank Harris and Rashad Wisdom were fixtures in the Roadrunners ’ No. 0 jersey, and names like Lorenzo Dantzler , Jaylon Haynes and Dadrian Taylor were his role models in the front seven. He aimed to fill their shoes one day, long hoping he would earn enough votes from his teammates and coaches to be formally recognized with a single-digit jersey as one of UTSA ’s leaders.
He’s the one who should be saying, ‘What is this Triangle of Toughness, man? How am I not a single-digit guy?’ And he’s one of the main ones leading it.” After UTSA lost at East Carolina on Sept. 28, falling to 2-3 and dropping a conference opener for the first time under Traylor, Simon stepped forward to organize a players-only meeting. He said his goal was to “make sure we still had a good pulse of the team, and we were still together.” “Just stay together and continuously build,” Simon said.
