AKRON , Ohio - Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich announced Monday the sentencing of a man for shooting multiple patrons at the Field House Lounge in Akron .
According to the prosecutor’s office, 22-year-old Jakel Blackwell, of Akron, was sentenced 16 to 18.5 years in prison for the shooting at Field House Lounge in 2025. Last month, Blackwell plead no contest to the following charges:One count of having weapons under disability, a third degree felonyIn March 2025, Akron Police Department officers arrived at the Field House Lounge in Akron for a report of a shooting, and located two patrons injured on scene.
The prosecutor’s office said another victim was also reported to police by Akron General Hospital in Stow, who was a walk-in patient with a gunshot wound in the leg. Surveillance footage from the scene portrayed an individual, later identified as Blackwell, getting into a physical fight with other patrons before pulling out a gun and firing twice. These shots injured three innocent people, the prosecutor’s office said, who were all not involved in the altercation.
The first bullet struck the first victim in the leg, and the second shot hit the second victim in the back, going through his upper torso before striking the third victim in the back. Officers received a tip the following day from an anonymous voicemail stating the suspect was Blackwell, who matched the description of the shooter provided by witness testimony and the surveillance footage. Jakel Blackwell’s actions were reckless and violent, causing harm to three innocent civilians that night.
To this day these victims are still recovering from their injuries, one of whom is paralyzed from the waist down. My sympathies are with them as they continue to heal from Blackwell’s senseless actions.
