Due to flooding from severe rains, the community of Allakaket has flooded, leading to evacuations and emergency supplies being brought in.

The downtown area of Allakaket , a city of roughly 177 people located 184 miles northwest of Fairbanks , has been surrounded by water according to Jacoline Bergstrom , the executive director of health services for Tanana Chiefs Conference .

“The main issue that really happened was that washed out the main road to get basically from uptown, midtown, down into the lower area,” said Bergstrom. The disruption has led to precautionary action involving the evacuation of those with increased medical needs. According to TCC, 18 people have been evacuated from the area.“There were a lot of outhouses that were compromised, so that led to a biohazard situation,” Bergstrom explained. She described the situation as “extremely disruptive.” “It does lead to a lot of concerns at many levels and we were very fortunate... the community was very fortunate that there was a very quick trajectory as far as Allakaket declared an emergency, the state received it, the governor declared an emergency and so that that led to a quick response,” said Bergstrom. She said that the declaration has allowed TCC to evacuate the people who needed to leave and facilitate the delivery of supplies. According to Alaska’s Weather Source, light rain is continuing in the area and water levels will remain high into the weekend.Alaska woman charged in husband’s stabbing death just after anniversaryNearly $1M worth of drugs found on Sand Point fishing boat after captain pulls hatchet on officersTrick or Treat in the Heat still going strong after 20 years Whittier Voter Misconduct Case: State moves forward with criminal indictments against 10 American Samoan residents
