A participant died during the swim portion of the IRONMAN Texas triathlon in The Woodlands, according to event organizers.

Public safety officials responded to Northshore Park on Saturday morning– Officials with the IRONMAN Texas triathlon have confirmed that a participant died during the swim portion of Saturday’s event. “We are saddened to confirm the death of a race participant during the swim portion of today’s IRONMAN Texas triathlon,” the organization said in on social media.

“We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the athlete and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance.”Authorities responded Saturday morning at Northshore Park, 2505 Lake Woodlands Drive, in The Woodlands, regarding the incident. Public safety officials from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, the Montgomery County Office of Emergency Management, and The Woodlands Fire Department are investigating.This is a developing story.
