Iran says its air defenses damaged a US F-35. The Pentagon confirms an incident but details remain limited.
Iran ’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps says it struck a US F-35 fighter jet during a pre-dawn operation over central Iran . The claim, if accurate, would mark a rare moment involving one of America’s most advanced stealth aircraft.
The IRGC said its air defense systems engaged the aircraft at around 2:50 a.m. local time. It stated that “a US F-35 fighter jet was struck and seriously damaged” during the incident.The group added that “the fate of the aircraft remains unknown and is under investigation,” noting there is a “high possibility” the jet may have crashed.The statement also linked the incident to a broader air defense effort. It said the operation followed “the successful interception of more than 125 US-Israeli drones.”US officials have acknowledged an incident involving an F-35 but described a different outcome.According to CNN, a US F-35 made an emergency landing at a base in the Middle East after taking damage during a combat mission over Iran.Capt. Tim Hawkins, a spokesperson for US Central Command, confirmed the aircraft was operating over Iran when the incident occurred.
