If the iOS 18.7.3 iPhone update hasn’t shown up as available for your iPhone, you’re not alone. So, what’s happening exactly?
When Apple released iOS 26.2 software for the iPhone 11 and later, it also released another update, iOS 18.7.3. Great, you might think, if you’re resisting the move to iOS 26 but want to keep your iPhone up-to-date with bug fixes.

However, if you have an iPhone 11 or later, when you went to Software Update in Settings, the only option offered was for iOS 26.2.Some people are reluctant to switch to iOS 26 — some users with low vision have commented that Liquid Glass is challenging for them, so there are valid reasons for avoiding the latest software. And the latest iPhones, the iPhone 17 series and iPhone Air, came with iOS 26 installed. But for some users of iPhone 11 to iPhone 16 series, the prospect of iOS 18.7.3 is an appealing one. You might legitimately have thought that iOS 18.7.3 was coming but not quite here. After all, November’s iOS 18.7.2 release came so late that many thought it wasn’t happening at all. There were signals that it was on the way this time. If you go to Software Update and turn on either Public Beta or Developer Beta updates, then iOS 18.7.3 will appear. Turn them off again and it’s not offered.If you have one of the three iPhones which supports iOS 18.7.3 but not iOS 26 — iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max and iPhone XR — then you can install iOS 18.7.3 right now. But phones from iPhone 11 onwards, all of which can run iOS 26 as well, it’s not an option. It’s also worth noting that the iPad equivalent, iPadOS 18.7.3 is available as an option right now.includes one comments of a call to Apple Support which said that iOS 26.2 is the only publicly available option, meaning for millions of users, this is the moment they will have to switch to iOS 26.2. Another Redditor points out that the beta iOS 18.7.3 has the identical build number to the general release they’ve installed on their iPhone XR.of iOS 26.2 has caused the commotion, and that while iOS 18.7.3 for the oldest compatible phones was also ready, the software for iPhone 11 and onwards for some reason needs a little tweaking. If you’re eager to update, you could install the Public Beta now — though be warned it’s a bigger download, 7.11GB on my iPhone 16e, but much smaller for the final release on my iPhone XS. Otherwise, you could wait until the general release happens, perhaps as soon as Monday, Dec. 15. I’ll update this story as it changes, so please check back.
