Rescuers in Summit County recovered the body of a 5-year-old boy Sunday while the search for his father continues amid challenging river conditions.

The father and son were swept into rapids Saturday evening when their inflatable inner tube capsized just before 7 p.m. near the Portage Trail Bridge in Cuyahoga Falls, authorities said. The man’s wife and younger son were also on the inner tube but managed to escape from the water, according to family members.Cuyahoga Falls Fire Chief Chris Martin provided an update Monday on the ongoing search efforts. The city has mobilized 50 rescue workers, five boats, two search dogs and multiple drones to locate the missing man. “Both shorelines of the river are being covered with side scan sonar being sent out from the boats,” Martin said during a“High water levels and swift currents caused by recent heavy rainfall continue to pose significant challenges to the search,” a statement from the city of Cuyahoga Falls says. Rescuers initially suspended their search at 10 p.m. Saturday because of low visibility from weather conditions. Sunday’s search concluded at 9:30 p.m. and resumed Monday at 8 a.m. The fire department has requested that the public avoid the area between Broad Boulevard and Gorge Metro Park while the search continues.
