Dr. James L. Hadnott is remembered for his service on the East Side and his work as an 'advocate for the voiceless.'
In the early 1970s, there weren't many Black doctors practicing in San Antonio . Dr. James L. Hadnott began organizing gatherings at his home for African American physicians to get to know and support one another. It was one of many ways Hadnott was a 'visionary,' said Dr. George D. Hilliard , 80, who shared a close friendship with Hadnott for more than 50 years.
Dr. Joseph A. Pierce, patron of African American art and authorship, dies at 89 Independent and self-reliant Hadnott was born in Beaumont on May 19, 1937, to William Hicks Hadnott and Marjorie O’Neil Hadnott. He was the third of four sons and sixth of seven children. His mother and father, both public school teachers, taught him the importance of education.
Clack: Joe and Aaronetta's love story was gold found at the beginning of a rainbow Spurs early investor Hilliard said his friend had diverse interests beyond medicine. After Jackie Robinson signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers and broke major league baseball’s color barrier in 1947, Hadnott, then 10 years old ,became enamored with sports. Hadnott was a golf aficionado and followed the University of Texas Longhorns and the San Antonio Spurs.
A life devoted to medicine and service Lasting legacy Hadnott’s son Harold said his father's legacy includes a commitment to God, the importance of family unity, prioritization of higher education and a tireless work ethic. Despite the challenges Hadnott and his siblings faced being raised during the era of segregation, he never wanted to be perceived as a victim of his circumstances, Harold Hadnott said.
