The 40-year-old was described as a repeat criminal offender by Dothan police.
DOTHAN , Ala. - An arrest was made on Saturday evening in connection with the shooting death of a man in front of a Dothan bar that same morning. 40-year-old Ted Carstiel Caldwell was located and taken into custody at around 8:30 p.
m. at a home in Ozark by Sheriff Mason Bynum and the Dale County Sheriff’s Department on one charge of Murder. Dothan police investigators and officers were able to to work off of multiple leads following the 4 a.m. shooting in the parking lot at Houligans that took the life of 35-year-old Brandon Layfatte Jones, and the information they gathered led them to Dale County.DPD would work alongside Sheriff Bynum and his department to execute several search warrants and locate both different persons of interest and witnesses, and their findings provided them with the evidence necessary to get a warrant signed for Caldwell. Those findings linked Caldwell to the scene that morning, with witnesses describing Jones and another individual engaged in a shouting match in the parking lot that turned physical. Findings revealed Caldwell would interject in this fight between Jones and the unnamed individual, when he would pull out a gun and fire at Jones, who was struck and ultimately killed by the gunfire. Caldwell was described by Dothan police as a repeat criminal offender in their statement sent out Saturday evening, noting previous arrests outside of Houston County on different charges, including assault and distribution of controlled substances.’ Following his arrest in Ozark, Caldwell was transported back to Dothan, and was booked into the Houston County Jail on no bond.
