Kerrville estimates it will cost $6.7 million — about $5 million of that coming from public money — to bring new life to the A.C. Schreiner House.
Kerrville is moving forward with a plan to spend millions of dollars to turn the former home of one of its most significant families into a local history museum. The Kerrville City Council has signed off on a contractor's estimate to renovate the A.C. Schreiner House . The house was built in 1906 at 529 Water St. , near the heart of Kerrville's downtown. It sits on a 7.5-acre estate, which was donated to the city in 2015.
Why a Hill Country city is raising its property tax rate by nearly 25% 'The museum will focus on the rich cultural heritage and history of Kerr County and the surrounding Hill Country, including Kerrville’s origins as a shingle-making community in the 1840s and its growth as a vital and vibrant economic trading center between San Antonio and El Paso,' Kerrville said in an earlier news release. Turning the house into a museum will cost about $6.7 million, according to city documents.
Kerrville could reimburse developer up to $27 million for 490-home project The home gets its name from the Schreiner family, which has had significant influence on Kerrville's history. Aime Charles Schreiner, son of Charles Armand Schreiner —the founder of the Charles Schreiner Company — lived in the house. The Schreiner family name is etched into the history of Kerrville, most notably with Schreiner University and Kerrville-Schreiner Park.
