A local Texas Roadhouse answered the call to help a grieving family after receiving a unique request Saturday night. It was like any other online order the Ephrata business received — an 8 oz. steak with steak fries and mashed potatoes with freshly baked bread.Last meal for our dog. Prepare w/ love. The owner, Hunter Metzger, said the order was placed for his family's eight and a half year old Great Dane, Iris. Staff certainly stepped up to the task and made sure Iris' last meal was made with the utmost care, and free of cost. Known as a "gentle giant" to those who had the pleasure of meeting Iris, Metzger said the compassion shown to the canine was a "level above the rest." That compassion, inscribed on the food's to-go container, saying that the food was in fact "made with love." Along with this, Metzger took to Facebook to post the written condolences given to him with the free meal. One of those staff members who assisted, Kate Weston, also took to social media to post Metzger's receipt on Facebook — a post that has now garnered thousands of reactions and hundreds of comments.Iris later passed away peacefully that night and is remembered by Metzger and is family for her "infamous lean, her deep bark, her affectionate nuzzles, her velvety soft ears, and her snoring."
