) - A new citywide effort has been launched in Selma to make homes safer and healthier thanks to a multi-million dollar federal grant aimed at addressing housing hazards.from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, or HUD, to launch a Lead Hazard Reduction Grant Program and a Healthy Homes Production Program aimed at reducing housing-related health and safety hazards.
Healthy Homes, Healthy Selma is a free city program designed to help families create safer, healthier living environments. It prioritizes Selma’s most vulnerable residents, including families with young children, seniors, and people with asthma or other respiratory conditions. The program is designed to strengthen families, enhance quality of life and build healthier neighborhoods. The program identifies and addresses common hazards such as mold, moisture, pests, poor ventilation, fall risks, fire hazards and electrical dangers.
Eligible households will receive a comprehensive home assessment to identify potential risks. Based on the findings, the program may provide services including painting, mold remediation, lead hazard reduction, pest and rodent control, and critical home repairs.
