SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, Ohio - Summit County prosecutor announced a 25-year-old Canton man pleaded guilty Wednesday in the death of 40-year-old Brian Cofer at a Halloween party in 2024.
Terrance Williams pleaded guilty to three counts, including one count of involuntary manslaughter with a firearm and two counts of felonious assault. Multiple people sustained injuries in the fight, with two pistol-whipped and sustaining head injuries and one suffering broken ribs. Partygoers attempted to get the partycrashers to leave, including Cofer, who used a barstool to push Williams out, according to Summit County Prosecutor Elliot Kolkovich.
Williams countered Cofer’s attempt by shooting him, the bullet passing through his abdomen, and Cofer later died of injuries sustained from the gunshot.
“Brian Cofer was senselessly killed for trying to remove uninvited, violent guests from a party. I want to extend my condolences to his loved ones as they grieve this tremendous loss,” Prosecutor Kolkovich said.
