BILOXI, Miss. - The Gulf Coast Restoration Advisory Board submitted its list of projects to be considered for nearly $70 million in Gulf Coast Restoration Funds. After presentations, discussions, and public meetings, the board narrowed down the original 89 project applications to a final list of 16.
Board members said the goal was to approve projects that would have the greatest economic impact on the Gulf Coast region. “I’m proud of the work accomplished by the advisory board. It was grounded in transparency, public engagement, and with the goal of identifying projects that have the greatest potential for regional impact,” said Jamie Miller, chairman of the Advisory Board.The list of final projects also includes a revolving loan trust fund designed to help grow local businesses and attract new ones across the six-county region. The idea is to offer gap financing alongside traditional funding, allowing the capital to cycle back into the fund so it can be reused for multiple projects over time.The money in the Gulf Coast Restoration Fund comes from the BP oil spill settlement.
