Greater Bay Technology has reportedly rolled out its first A-sample cells of a proprietary all-solid-state battery.

Greater Bay Technology , the high-tech incubator backed by China-based automotive giant GAC Group, has reportedly rolled out its first A-sample cells of a proprietary all-solid-state battery. It is a moment the industry has been chasing for a decade.

While competitors are still wrestling with brittle ceramics and toxic sulfides, this new cell claims to have solved the impossible trinity of EV tech: safety, energy, and speed. New chemistry in the raceThe solid-state race is largely a four-way sprint between sulfide, oxide, polymer, and halide chemistries. These methods are often affected by slow ion movement, high internal resistance, and manufacturing hurdles that make mass production difficult. Breaking from the pack, Greater Bay has developed a proprietary deep eutectic composite electrolyte — a move that could shift the industry’s focus toward hybrid material systems. The solution is a hybrid ESC system that blends the best of organic and inorganic chemistry.Reportedly, the cells combine three advanced materials engineering techniques, including SDE-cured deep eutectics, CFS antiperovskites, and nematic nanoconfinement. This organic-inorganic composite successfully bridges the gap between lab-scale chemistry and industrial manufacturing. Interestingly, the tech has also earned a spot in China’s national major projects under the guidance of the National Development and Reform Commission. The “A-sample” proves the design works. It is an initial, lab-scale prototype designed to move a design from theoretical math to physical reality. Moreover, the initial tests on the A-sample cells have yielded industry-leading results. These A-sample cells are strictly all-solid-state, containing zero liquid electrolytes. In testing, the batteries were found to be non-flammable, surviving extreme nail-penetration and thermal-shock tests due to their liquid-free design. In addition, the tech reaches energy densities of 260–500 Wh/kg for extended range, while simultaneously solving the slow charge problem with stable 2-3C fast-charging capabilities. Importantly, these prototypes maintain a long cycle life and consistent performance comparable to today’s mainstream lithium batteries. It proves the tech can handle the rigors of daily driving without premature degradation.Scaling production of the solid-state batteryWith validation of the material chemistry and passing preliminary safety stress tests, the A-sample provides the foundational green light needed to move toward vehicle integration and eventual mass production.Greater Bay Technology is moving from prototype to scale. The company is targeting GWh-level mass production by late 2026, with plans to debut the cells in GAC’s high-end Hyptec models. If successful, this timeline could make them the first in the world to transition all-solid-state technology from a laboratory achievement to a commercially available vehicle reality.Reportedly, mass production would take place at the Greater Bay’s manufacturing base in Guangzhou’s Nansha district.Bolstering its technical moat, Greater Bay Technology has filed over 50 patents covering everything from proprietary electrolyte formulas to advanced cell manufacturing. While still a niche player compared to giants like CATL and BYD, Greater Bay Technology is rapidly gaining traction in the world’s most competitive EV market. According to March 2026 data from the China Automotive Battery Innovation Alliance , the company successfully installed 0.21 GWh of battery capacity. This performance secured them a 0.37 percent market share and a respectable 15th place ranking among China’s top battery manufacturers—a solid foothold for an innovation-led company as it prepares to scale its solid-state technology.
