Streamer Dalton Eatherly, known for offensive racial slurs, has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting someone during a fight outside a courthouse in Tennessee.
Dalton Eatherly , known by his streamer name “Chud the Builder,” has been charged with attempted murder after he allegedly shot someone who confronted him outside of a courthouse in Tennessee .
District Attorney Robert J. Nash said that Eatherly, 28, shot an unidentified man during a fight that took place outside of the courthouse in Clarksville on Wednesday, May 13, according to the New York Post. Eatherly also accidentally shot himself during the incident, according to Nash. He has earned a large online following by filming himself saying offensive racial slurs in an attempt to get reactions from others.
Eatherly was in court on the day of the incident for a civil case over unpaid debts. ClarksvilleNow reported that he is being sued by a debt and credit collector, according to court documents. He even livestreamed from the scene of the shooting and blamed his gunfire on the other man, who witnesses said confronted Eatherly over his upsetting online content.
Eatherly said the man and others were “laughing” as he walked by and the victim allegedly threatened to hit him if he began making racist statements.
“He said, ‘You start saying all that chimp out s*** to me and ‘Imma hit you,’ and he hit me, he started whaling on me,” Eatherly, who has referred to multiple Black people as “chimps” in past videos, said in footage of the incident, according to CNN. Eatherly then claimed that “rich people” were provoking strangers into harming him.
“They’re all publicly saying ‘if y’all assault this guy, we’ll make you rich’. The f***,” he said. Following the shooting, the victim was medically evacuated by LifeFlight. Officials said that he is recovering and is currently in stable condition.
Eatherly was also injured during the incident and suffered a “graze” wound on his arm. Nash said that Eatherly seemingly shot himself by accident during the incident. After the shots were fired, Eatherly was arrested at the scene.
In addition to attempted murder, Eatherly has been charged with aggravated assault, reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon and employing a firearm during a dangerous felony. Officials said that he’s being held at Montgomery County jail until his bond is set at an arraignment hearing. While it’s not currently clear if Eatherly has entered a plea or retained legal counsel, he insisted in the livestream that he shot the victim in self-defense.
Montgomery County Sheriff John Fuson said in a news release that “this kind of violence won’t be tolerated, and our office will work to make sure those responsible are held accountable to the fullest extent of the law. ”
