Alabama Awards Grants to Support Sexual Assault Victims and Prosecution

Nearly $145,000 in grant funding has been allocated to three Alabama nonprofits to aid sexual assault victims and bolster the prosecution of related cases. The funds will support victim services, training for professionals, and investigation efforts across multiple counties.

) - Nearly $145,000 in grant funding was awarded to three nonprofits to help sexual assault victims and support the prosecution of sexual assault cases, Gov.

Kay Ivey announced Friday.

“Victims of this terrible crime deserve timely and compassionate care from well-trained professionals,” Ivey said. $32,710 for the Mobile County District Attorney’s Office, which investigates and prosecutes sexual assault cases and supports victims in Mobile County. $80,000 for the Montgomery-based organization to train advocates, medical personnel and other first responders and to provide direct services to victims of sexual assault, child abuse, human trafficking, stalking and harassment statewide.

$32,110 for a 24-hour hotline, case management and other services for victims of sexual assault and other crimes in Autauga, Butler, Crenshaw, Dallas, Elmore, Lowndes, Montgomery, Perry and Wilcox counties. The funds are provided by the U.S. Department of Justice and administered through the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
