The impact of missing and murdered indigenous persons in the Fairbanks area was memorialized on Wednesday, as Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) dedicated a plaque and benches to those that have been lost.

FAIRBANKS, Alaska - The impact of missing and murdered indigenous persons in the Fairbanks area was memorialized on Wednesday, as Tanana Chiefs Conference dedicated a plaque and benches to those that have been lost.

The memorial stands as a “permanent symbol of remembrance, love and resilience,” said Brian Ridley, the Chief and chairman of TCC. “A space where families, friends, and community members can come to reflect, grieve and draw strength.” The memorial located next to the Chena Bingo Hall in Fairbanks, is “ensuring that these voices are not silenced and these families are not left behind,” Ridley said. “This dedication is a commitment to never forget those we have lost and those who are still missing. Each name, each story, each life matters.” During the dedication, attendees were fed lunch and heard from community leaders and those that have lost their loved ones. “As a member of TCC organization, we’re pleased to see the installation of this MMIP bench,” said Melissa Charlie, the executive director of Fairbanks Native Association. “Sometimes we just need to find space to remember, pray and grieve, and thank for providing that space.”, spoke about the support the community has shown throughout her search and the search for others. “I didn’t expect to see so many people out there and I’m just happy about that because we know that someone knows something about his missing,” she said.‘Friends with everyone’: Delta Junction community mourns loss of 16-year-old killed in ATV crashFederal authorities issue renewed warning to Alaskans over cyberattacks, internet fraud and scamsIndia’s military training in Alaska as county’s prime minister attends military parade with Putin, Xi & Kim Jong UnAlaska woman charged in husband’s stabbing death just after anniversary
