A stray dog who kept breaking into a woman's house around dinner time has become part of the family. Heather DeFrancesco from Gainestown, Alabama , first noticed the dog, whom she named Gimpy , two weeks ago when she found him eating with her four dogs. Initially, she thought her husband was playing a joke on her, but she soon discovered the dog was getting in through an open window. Footage posted on TikTok shows Gimpy literally breaking into the house around dinner time.
'We leave that opening in the door for the cat to come in and eat. I never imagined a dog coming through it,' DeFrancesco told Newsweek. 'I believe he followed Buddy home. They seem to love each other. My pit bull mix Scooby growled at him the first night, he gave it to him right back... and Scooby ran away. He's definitely got personality! Now, they all get along great.' Gimpy, who has a cherry eye and a bad back leg, has no collar, tags, or microchip. DeFrancesco believes someone may have dumped him off, as it's a common occurrence in their rural area. While they initially planned to feed him and send him on his way, Gimpy kept returning. He would eat, then cuddle with DeFrancesco and her husband in their bed, acting like he belonged there. 'He acts like he's been here forever,' DeFrancesco said. Their plan now is to keep Gimpy and take him to the vet to get his leg checked. DeFrancesco hopes her story inspires others to give stray dogs a chance. 'Our goal is to start a little non-profit rescue. We've rescued 14 dogs since buying our home here,' she said. 'Of course we couldn't keep them all, but that little Gimpy has Gumption. He just stole our hearts.'
