Geneva, N.Y. — A missing man whose body was found inside an Ontario County motel room over the weekend had been fatally stabbed, according to a felony complaint obtained Tuesday.
Sheriff David Cirencione said Emmanuel Richelieu's brother reported him missing Friday, saying he had not heard from him since Wednesday. Deputies found Richelieu's phone at the Americas Best Value Inn in Geneva, but he was not with the phone. A search of the property led to deputies finding Richelieu, 37, dead Saturday inside Room 118 at the motel. Cirencione said Julius Ware, 29, who was recently released from prison, was living in Room 118. Authorities identified him as a suspect in the case and found him Sunday afternoon at a home in Geneva, arresting him on a second-degree murder charge.According to the felony complaint, Ware intentionally caused Richelieu's death by stabbing him multiple times in the torso and neck. The circumstances and exact time of the incident were unclear, but the complaint indicated it happened "on or around" Friday. The Ontario County Sheriff's Office said the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office ruled Richelieu's death a homicide caused by "multiple sharp force injuries." The incident remains under investigation. The New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision said Ware had been conditionally released to parole supervision April 9 after serving a prison sentence for robbery. Records indicate Ware had been in prison since Sept. 24, 2018.Ware pleaded not guilty Monday morning and was held in the Ontario County Jail without bail or release.
