Woman was on board MV Hondius during outbreak that has killed three people

BRUNSWICK, Ga. - A Brunswick-area woman may be one of two Georgians being monitored for hantavirus after being on a cruise ship at the center of an outbreak.

Now-deleted social media posts from the woman detail her time on the ship, including that she knew two people that died of the hantavirus. A source close to her family confirms she was on the ship. WTOC reached the woman by phone. She declined to comment on the situation or confirm that she is being monitored for hantavirus.

WTOC reached out to the Georgia Department of Public Health to ask what area of the state the people being monitored live in. A spokesperson declined to answer. The department also will not confirm how the two people that were on the cruise are being monitored, or whether there is a public health threat.
