Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, a prominent gay father and football club owner, and his husband Scott Hutchison face serious charges of rape, sexual assault, and trafficking after allegedly grooming and assaulting four young men. The couple, who deny the allegations, appeared in court as details of their high-profile lifestyle and media presence emerged.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow , 57, one of Britain's pioneering gay fathers and the UK's first openly gay football club owner, along with his husband Scott Hutchison , 32, have been accused of targeting, befriending, and grooming four young men before allegedly raping them.

The couple, who reside in Danbury, Essex, appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates' Court on Friday, where they vehemently denied charges of rape, sexual assault, and modern slavery trafficking for sexual exploitation. The alleged crimes, which span from April 2013 to January of this year, involve four different men whose identities are protected by law. According to prosecutors, the defendants recruited the young men, groomed them, and subjected them to sexual assaults, including rape.

The couple's legal representative, Oliver Snodin, stated that the allegations are strenuously denied by both men. Barrie Drewitt-Barlow, known for his high-profile lifestyle and media appearances, purchased non-league Maldon and Tiptree FC 14 months ago and was set to feature in an ITV documentary about his ownership of the club.

However, the documentary has been canceled following the charges. Essex Police conducted a raid on the couple's home on Wednesday, forcing entry by breaking through a wooden fence. Prosecutor Serena Berry described the couple as celebrities living multi-million-pound lifestyles, with extensive business interests in Essex and abroad. She alleged that they targeted young males, recruited and groomed them, and invited them to their home and other premises.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow made headlines in 1999 when he and his ex-husband Tony became one of the first gay couples in the UK to have children through surrogacy. He has since appeared on various reality TV shows, including Rich House, Poor House and Below Deck Sailing Yacht. In the past, he claimed to have been approached by Premier League footballers who are secretly gay but expressed reluctance to become the poster boy for gay footballing.

The court heard that Barrie Drewitt-Barlow is charged with three counts of sexual assault on a male, four counts of rape of a man 16 or over, and two counts of arranging or facilitating travel for exploitation. Scott Hutchison faces one count of sexual assault on a male, one count of rape of a man 16 or over, and two counts of arranging or facilitating travel for exploitation.

The defendants were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on June 5
