A Southwest Florida mother, Kayla Burress, was left in a state of shock after she awoke to find two alligators engaged in aggressive combat on her screened-in porch, just feet away from her sleeping baby. The alligators left a trail of blood and destruction behind.
Two ferocious alligators were caught on video turning a Southwest Florida mother’s enclosed front porch into a bloody battlefield — just feet from where her baby was sleeping inside.
Kayla Burress said she awoke to what she thought was a burglar trying to break into her home in Ave Maria — about 36 miles from Naples — but was left in complete shock when she saw the two large reptiles in violent combat on her screened-in porch, where her children regularly play,Burress filmed the two beasts as they traded vicious blows while ripping her porch to shreds. During the fight, the gators slammed each other through the screen enclosure, leaving a trail of blood, shredded mesh and twisted metal behind.

“I just warned everybody else in the neighborhood, like, watch your kids. Watch the dogs. “Big males are chasing out younger males in competition, and younger males are looking for new habitats,” naturalist and environmental educator Rob Howell said. “They’re going to be on edge because they think their life is at stake — they’re going to do everything they can,” Howell said. “When you trap them, corner them, they’re going to show defensive behaviors and aggressive behaviors. ” The wildlife expert said that because alligators tend to be more territorial and aggressive during mating season, the public should maintain a safe distance from bodies of water in areas with large alligator populations.

Since 1948, Florida has recorded between 450 and 500 documented alligator bites, with only around 30 proving fatal.
