CLEVELAND, Ohio - Gas prices in Northeast Ohio remain well over four dollars a gallon, creating challenges for food truck operators as warmer weather brings peak season.
Filling up a food truck now costs over $100, according to Tiffany Knight, cofounder of Blasian Fusion. Knight paid that amount to drive to Walnut Wednesday in downtown Cleveland, a weekly gathering of food trucks at the park on Chester and 12th Street.
“It hurts the business, it hurts the economy, it hurts peoples pocket,” Philip said. The high upfront fuel costs come with uncertain payback, leading some operators to limit their range.
“We don’t want to travel 30 - 40 miles away now because the cost of gas and when we get there we’re not always sure what the weather is going to be,” Philip said. “Looking into solar energy, electricity, things like that. But the events we do our Blasian foodies come out for us,” Knight said.
