STARK COUNTY, Ohio - The driver allegedly involved in a car crash that killed a Canton police officer, pleaded not guilty to three misdemeanor charges in Canton Municipal Court Monday.
Garth Haines is charged with vehicular manslaughter, driving in marked lanes, and directional signals for the Nov. 10, 2025 accident. Officer Dave Wolgamott was on his way to work when he was involved in the two-car crash in the 800 block of Cherry Ave. SE around 7 a.m.“It is a very sad day for all of us at Canton PD. Dave will be sorely missed,” said Canton police in a prior statement.
He was assigned to the patrol division where he worked in their jail.
“His commitment to serving and protecting the residents of Canton earned him the respect of his fellow officers and the community he proudly served. This is a tragic day for our department and for our community. We ask that everyone keep Officer Wolgamott’s family, friends, and colleagues in their thoughts and prayers, and allow them time to grieve during this difficult time.
" Before coming to Canton, Officer Wolgamott also worked for the Lakemore, Strasburg, and Bolivar police departments. “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of one of our own, who passed away while on his way to serve his community.
